Concrete construction, defects repair method, and casting steps

Concrete durability, hardening time and strength are affected by mixing ratios and the basic components of concrete. The method of transportation, casting and curing also affects the durability of concrete, so it is necessary to follow the specifications set by the responsible engineer in the concrete design process.

Concrete pouring steps :

  • Preparing the quantities of materials for the required mixing ratio .
  • Mixing concrete components .
  • Verify operability
  • Concrete transportation .
  • Pouring concrete into the formwork
  • Use the vibrator to mix well
  • Remove templates after the specified time period expires
  • Treating concrete members in the appropriate ways and at the required time .

In this article, we discuss how to properly and safely pour and cure concrete

Concrete pouring

  • Concrete pouring should not start until after checking the measurements and the durability of the reinforced iron used
  • Make sure the mold is clean and free of tension wires, bits of wood, or other materials
  • In the case of pouring roofs, planks or MS steel plates supported directly using wooden blocks should be provided to transfer the concrete to its required position without affecting the steel reinforcing bars.
  • Personnel shall not be allowed to walk on the reinforcing bars .
  • In the case of columns and walls, it is better to pour concrete without structural joints, that is, to complete the pouring process until the concrete part is completely finished.
  • Casting in the vertical vertical direction is limited to one meter per hour in huge parts due to the heat of reaction
  • In trenches and deep bases, concrete is poured through wooden or metal studs with a slope of not more than 1. 3 So that the concrete components do not separate during the pouring process

concrete curing

  • After the concrete begins to harden, it must be protected from rapid drying by covering it with wet bags, sand or lightly spraying water.
  • The concrete surface must be treated 24 hours after pouring by immersion method for a period of not less than seven days

Repairing defects after pouring concrete

In roof slabs the upper surface is finished evenly with a wooden trowel before the concrete hardens. After removing the formwork, the concrete sections are checked and reviewed before any defects can be repaired .

  • Reject concrete that has sag, skews, or has gaps to an extent that compromises structural integrity or architectural appearance
  • Surface defects of a secondary nature and causes are accepted .

What is concrete?

Concrete is the most famous building material. It consists of cement, fine aggregate sandand coarse aggregate sand and gravelmixed with water and hardens with time .

concrete construction steps

  1. Choosing the quantities of materials to mix
  2. material mixing
  3. Verify operability
  4. Transfer of materials to the site
  5. Casting in moulds
  6. Material integration
  7. Remove templates after the appropriate time period has expired
  8. Treat the concrete parts in the appropriate ways and at the required time .
